Our Members
Many of the leading international NGOs are LINGOs members. Membership is available to NGOs with a primary mission of international development, humanitarian relief, health, conservation and/or social justice. Our members are faith-based and secular; large, medium and small NGOs that seek to strengthen their staff’s ability to do their good work.
- ACCION‘s goal is to have a significant impact on poverty by building self-sustainable microfinance institutions (MFIs) capable of reaching millions of poor microentrepreneurs. We do this by promoting commercial microfinance, providing our network of MFIs with a broad range of technical support. ACCION International’s partner microfinance institutions today are providing loans as low as $100 to poor women and men entrepreneurs in 22 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean and sub-Saharan Africa, and in more than 30 U.S. cities and towns. Together, ACCION affiliated programs have disbursed $9.4 billion in microloans to more than 3.9 million borrowers. Ninety-seven percent of these loans have been repaid.
- ACDI/VOCA is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes broad-based economic growth and the development of civil society in emerging democracies and developing countries. Offering a comprehensive range of technical assistance services, ACDI/VOCA addresses the most pressing and intractable development problems.
- Action Aid is an international organisation, working with over 15 million people in more than 40 countries for a world free from poverty and injustice. Action Aid, whose head office is in Johannesburg, believes the people whose lives their work affects should decide how Action Aid is run. Action Aid helps people use their own power to fight poverty and injustice. Because that’s how real change happens – for families, for communities, for whole societies.
- Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) seeks to identify and address social distortions and deprivation in developing countries. The agency’s work is a representative expression of Seventh-day Adventists’ desire to improve the quality of life of those in need. ADRA invests in the potential of these individuals through community development initiatives in six diverse sectors.
- African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a leading pan-African research institution headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, that conducts high quality policy-relevant research on population, health, education, urbanization and related development issues across Africa. APHRC actively engages policymakers and other key stakeholders to achieve measurable policy impacts and ensure decision making across the continent is informed by rigorous evidence-based research. APHRC is committed to developing the next generation of globally competitive African scholars and leads numerous research capacity strengthening initiatives and strong partnerships with top African universities and research institutions.
- The Aga Khan Foundation-Afghanistan (AKF) focuses on a small number of specific development problems by forming intellectual and financial partnerships with organisations sharing its objectives. Most Foundation grants are made to grassroots organisations testing innovative approaches in the field. With a small staff, a host of cooperating agencies and thousands of volunteers, the Foundation reaches out to vulnerable populations on four continents, irrespective of their race, religion, political persuasion or gender. The Aga Khan Foundation of Afghanistan is participating in LINGOs’ single-country membership pilot.
- American Refugee Committee (ARC) is an international nonprofit, nonsectarian organization that has provided humanitarian assistance and training to millions of beneficiaries over the last 29 years. ARC works with refugee communities in 7 countries around the world, helping people regain control of their lives. The people ARC serves have lost everything to events completely beyond their control. ARC provides shelter, clean water and sanitation, health care, skills training, microcredit education, protection and whatever support we can to let people begin again.
- CARE works with poor communities in more than 70 countries around the world to find lasting solutions to poverty. They look at the big picture of poverty and go beyond the symptoms with a broad range of programs based on empowerment, equity and sustainability that seek to tap human potential and leverage the power of communities and individuals to unleash a vast force for progress.
- Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) is the official overseas development and relief agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. CAFOD believes that all human beings have a right to dignity and respect, and that the world’s resources are a gift to be shared equally by all men and women, whatever their race, nationality or religion.
- Catholic Relief Services aids the poor by first providing direct assistance where needed and then encouraging the people with their own development through economic assistance programming. Together this fosters secure, sustainable and just communities. CRS is also committed to educating the people of the US to fulfill their moral responsibilities to our brothers and sisters in the developing world.
- CBM is an international Christian development organisation, committed to improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in low income regions of the world.
- The Center for Victims of Torture works toward a future in which torture ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. CVT is an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. CVT provides direct care for those who have been tortured, trains partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocates for human rights and an end to torture.
- ChildFund International is inspired and driven by the potential that is inherent in all children; the potential not only to survive but to thrive, to become leaders who bring positive change for those around them. The heart of ChildFund International remains the one-to-one connection made through child sponsorship. They work in 31 countries, assisting approximately 15.2 million children and their family members, regardless of race, creed or gender. Their distinctive approach focuses on working with children throughout their journey from birth to young adulthood, as well as with families, local organizations and communities globally to create the environments children need to thrive.
- Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) is a child-focused international development organization and a member of ChildFund Alliance. For more than 50 years, CCFC has been helping children and families of all faiths move from poverty to self-reliance. CCFC supports children and communities in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Nicaragua and Paraguay. Currently, CCFC has more than 50,000 children sponsored, benefiting approximately 500,000 people around the world.
- CIAT (The International Center for Tropical Agriculture), a CGIAR Center, works to reduce hunger and poverty, and improve human nutrition in the tropics through research aimed at increasing the eco-efficiency of agriculture.
- CIMMYT (The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center) is the world’s premier center for research, development, and training in maize and wheat and in farming systems for those two essential food crops. From its headquarters in Mexico and offices throughout the developing world, the center works with partners worldwide to reduce poverty and hunger by sustainably increasing the productivity of maize and wheat cropping systems.
- CIVICUS– World Alliance for Citizen Participation is an international alliance of members and partners which constitutes an influential network of organisations at the local, national, regional and international levels, and spans the spectrum of civil society. CIVICUS has worked for nearly two decades to strengthen citizen action and civil society throughout the world, especially in areas where participatory democracy and citizens’ freedom of association are threatened.
- Clinton Health Access Initiative Founded in 2002, all of CHAI’s programs share the goal of achieving a large-scale, transformation and lasting impact that saves and improves people’s lives. CHAI works on issues of HIV/AIDS, malaria, and childhood diseases, as well as expanding human resources for health, increasing access to health care and improving the efficiency of the health commodity marketplace. CHAI approaches problems with an entrepreneurial spirit, looking for creative solutions to unique local challenges.
- CMMB is an international NGO providing long-term, co-operative medical and development aid to communities affected by poverty and unequal access to healthcare. For over a century, CMMB has worked to strengthen and support communities through healthcare programs and initiatives, the distribution of medicines and medical supplies. CMMB’s global movement focuses on developing access to needs-based healthcare in partnership with communities, government and international agencies, private and corporate donors, medical and pharmaceutical manufacturers, and local organizations.
- Compassion International Compassion International exists as an advocate for children, to release them from their spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible and fulfilled Christian adults.
- Conservation International (CI) works to ensure a healthy and productive planet for us all. Through science, policy and field work, CI applies smart solutions to protect the resources that we all depend on. CI helps communities, countries and societies protect tropical forests, lush grasslands, rivers, wetlands, abundant lakes and the sea. Only through properly valuing the essential services these ecosystems provide can we create a sustainable development path that will benefit all people for generations to come.
- Counterpart International is a global development organization works in partnership to empower people, communities and institutions to drive and sustain their own development. Counterpart International focuses on three areas of international development: economic development, food security and nutrition, and building effective governance and institutions.
- Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organisation founded in 1956 that works in more than 30 countries throughout the world. DRC fulfils its mandate by providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations – refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities in the conflict areas of the world; and by advocating on behalf of conflict-affected populations internationally, and in Denmark, on the basis of humanitarian principles and the Human Rights Declaration.
- Education Development Center is dedicated to improving education, health, and economic opportunities for people of all ages. They create and implement innovative programs that take the results of rigorous research and put it into real-world practice at scale. Founded in 1958 by MIT researchers and scholars, EDC today has 1,200 employees. They manage 250 projects and work in all U.S. states and in 22 countries around the world.
- Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation seeks to prevent pediatric HIV infection and to eradicate pediatric AIDS through research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs. They have become a worldwide leader in the fight against pediatric AIDS by using three main strategies: funding critical research and training; launching and supporting global health initiatives to prevent mother-to-child transmissiond (PMTCT) of HIV and provide care and treatment; and advocating for children’s health.
- Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. Guided by academic advisors and business experts, the student leaders of Enactus create and implement community empowerment projects around the globe. The experience not only transforms lives, it helps students develop the kind of talent and perspective that are essential to leadership in an ever-more complicated and challenging world.
- Episcopal Relief and Development responds to human suffering around the world. We provide emergency assistance after disasters, rebuild communities, and help children and families climb out of poverty.
- FHI 360 is a global development organization with a rigorous, evidence-based approach. FHI 360’s professional staff includes experts in health, nutrition, education, economic development, civil society, environment and research. FHI 360 operates from 60 offices with 4,400 staff in the U.S. and around the world. Their commitment to partnerships at every level and our multidisciplinary approach enable FHI 360 to have lasting impact on the individuals, communities and countries we serve –improving lives for millions.
- Food for the Hungry is an international Christian relief and development organization working in more than 26 countries around the world. They do a bit of everything — from disaster and emergency relief to sustainable development programs.
- Forum Syd is a Swedish non-governmental member organisation that works with people and people’s rights. Forum Syd believes that only when peoples rights are being recognized, sustainable and long-term development can take place. Forum Syd is tasked with channelling Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) development funds to Swedish civil society organisations (CSOs) who work with international development. In this role, Forum Syd approves, supports and offers capacity training on project proposals and programmes while building networks and acting as an umbrella and platform organisation.
- Global Communities is a global development organization committed to working in partnership with communities worldwide to bring about sustainable, impactful changes that improve the lives and livelihoods of the vulnerable.
- GOAL is an international humanitarian agency dedicated to alleviating the suffering of the poorest of the poor; GOAL is a non-denominational, non-governmental and non-political organisation.
- Gorta-Self Help Africa is a leading international development charity with an expertise in small-scale farming and growing family-farm businesses. They are motivated by injustice, by their expertise in small-scale agriculture and family-farm business, and the opportunity they have to help small farmers change the lives of their families.
- Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. Habitat seeks to eliminate poverty and homelessness throughout the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action, Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.
- Heifer International‘s mission is to work with communities and families to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth. They use the gift of a source of food rather than short term relief and expect the offspring of the gift to be passed on to others in the community along with the knowledge, resources and skills to create an expanding network of hope, dignity and self-reliance.
- Helen Keller International Founded in 1915, Helen Keller International (HKI) is among the oldest international NGOs devoted to preventing blindness and reducing malnutrition in the world. HKI’s mission is to save the sight and lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. HKI combats the causes and consequences of blindness and malnutrition by establishing programs based on evidence and research in vision, health and nutrition in 22 countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific and the US.
- Human Rights Education Associates (HREA) is an international non-govhttp://www.cmmb.org/ernmental organization that supports human rights learning; the training of development professionals, human rights defenders, humanitarian workers and legal professionals; and the development of educational materials and programming.
- ICRAF (The World Agroforestry Centre) is a CGIAR Consortium Research Centre. ICRAF’s vision is a rural transformation in the developing world as smallholder households strategically increase their use of trees in agricultural landscapes to improve their food security, nutrition, income, health, shelter, social cohesion, energy resources and environmental sustainability. The Centre’s mission is to generate science-based knowledge about the diverse roles that trees play in agricultural landscapes, and to use its research to advance policies and practices, and their implementation, that benefit the poor and the environment.
- InsideNGO believes that inside every international relief or development NGO there are core professionals who provide the structure and expertise to support the reach and impact of their organization. InsideNGO is dedicated to strengthening operational teams and fostering leadership in the international non-profit sector.
- The Institute of International Education (IIE) fosters mutual understanding, develops global leaders, and protects academic freedom worldwide through educational exchange and training programs that advance the vision of Opening Minds to the World®. Peace and prosperity around the world depend on increasing the capacity of people to think and work on a global and intercultural basis.
- International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) supports the development of preventative AIDS vaccines that are not only safe and effective, but also accessible to all people. To that end, IAVI invests the bulk of its resources in the research and clinical assessment of candidate vaccines against strains of HIV that are prevalent in the developing world, where some 95% of new HIV infections occur.
- International Development Law Organization (IDLO) is exclusively devoted to promoting the rule of law. They enable countries to design, reform and strengthen those laws and institutions most apt to deliver justice, dignity and economic opportunity. They do not champion law for law’s sake: if they promote well-functioning courts, they also strive to make them accessible. For IDLO, helping draft a national Constitution means giving a voice to the rural widow.
- International Federation of Psoriasis Associations (IFPA) provide expertise and support to their members, facilitating their national and regional work. Through IFPA, members can exchange ideas and access the latest global psoriasis research. They also encourage the establishment of new psoriasis associations where none existed previously.
- The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) provides research-based policy solutions to sustainably reduce poverty and end hunger and malnutrition in developing countries. Established in 1975, IFPRI currently has more than 600 employees working in over 50 countries. It is a research center of the CGIAR Consortium, a worldwide partnership engaged in agricultural research for development.
- International Justice Mission is a human rights agency that rescues victims of violence, sexual exploitation, slavery and oppression. A multi-national team of law enforcement professionals and legal staff conduct criminal investigations and collect evidence to rescue victims and bring perpetrators to justice. IJM then works to ensure victims have access to quality aftercare and encourages structural changes to prevent the abuse from being committed against others who are also at risk. IJM is determined to bring the church and public into increased awareness of the cases of manifest injustice that exist in the world and of the opportunities to correct these injustices by the diligent application of professional training and expertise.
- The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works to improve food security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for better and more sustainable use of livestock. ILRI is a member of the CGIAR Consortium which works for a food-secure future.
- International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in under-served communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.
- International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), in the spirit of Christ’s love, offers emergency relief and development programs to those in need worldwide, without discrimination, and strengthens the capacity of the Orthodox Church to so respond.
- The International Potato Center known by its Spanish acronym CIP works closely with its partners, CIP seeks to achieve food security, increased well-being, and gender equity for poor people in the developing world. CIP furthers its mission through rigorous research, innovation in science and technology, and capacity strengthening regarding root and tuber farming and food systems. CIP is part of the CGIAR Consortium, a global partnership that unites organizations engaged in research for a food secure future. CGIAR research is dedicated to reducing rural poverty, increasing food security, improving human health and nutrition, and ensuring more sustainable management of natural resources.
- International Rescue Committee is at work in 25 countries delivering lifesaving aid in emergencies, rebuilding shattered communities, caring for war-traumatized children, rehabilitating health care, water and sanitation systems, reuniting separated families, restoring lost livelihoods, establishing schools, training teachers, strengthening the capacity of local organizations and supporting civil society and good-governance initiatives. For refugees afforded sanctuary in the United States, IRC offices across the country provide a range of assistance aimed at helping new arrivals get settled, adjust and acquire the skills to become self-sufficient.
- Ipas has worked for three decades to increase women’s ability to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights and to reduce deaths and injuries of women from unsafe abortion. Ipas’s global and country programs include training, research, advocacy, distribution of equipment and supplies for reproductive-health care, and information dissemination.
- IREX is an international nonprofit organization providing thought leadership and innovative programs to promote positive lasting change globally. IREX enables local individuals and institutions to build key elements of a vibrant society: quality education, independent media, and strong communities. To strengthen these sectors, IREX program activities also include conflict resolution, technology for development, gender, and youth.
- Islamic Relief Worldwide envisages a caring world where people unite to respond to the suffering of others, empowering them to fulfil their potential. Working in over 25 countries, we promote sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and disease. We also respond to disasters and emergencies, helping people in crisis. Islamic Relief provides support regardless of race, political affiliation, gender or belief, and without expecting anything in return.
- Jhpiego enhances the health and saves the lives of women and families in limited-resource settings. For nearly four decades, Jhpiego has put evidence-based health innovations into everyday practice to overcome barriers to high-quality health care services for the world’s most vulnerable populations. Originating as technical experts in reproductive, maternal and child health, Jhpiego has grown to embrace new challenges, including HIV/AIDS, malaria and cervical cancer prevention—reflecting the increasing inter-connectedness of global health.
- Literacy Bridge is an organization with the mission to significantly improve the health, income, and quality of life for the world’s most underserved communities by providing life-changing knowledge through innovative technology.
- Living Water International is an international Christian organization, serving the world’s poorest communities by helping them acquire safe, clean water. Living Water International extends assistance to all people, regardless of their religious beliefs, gender, race, or ethnic background.
- Management Sciences for Health is a nonprofit international health organization composed of nearly 1,300 people from more than 60 nations. Our mission is to save lives and improve the health of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people by closing the gap between knowledge and action in public health. Together with our partners, we are helping managers and leaders in developing countries to create stronger management systems that improve health services for the greatest health impact.
- Medair responds to natural disasters, conflicts that uproot communities, and crises such as drought or disease. Medair’s core competencies are emergency relief and rehabilitation. Medair’s areas of focus are Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, where it has seven country programmes, and exceptionally in Haiti. Medair’s ability to provide life-saving care is enhanced by flexible multisectoral expertise including health services, WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene), and shelter and infrastructure. Headquartered in Ecublens, Switzerland, Medair’s internationally recruited staff are motivated by their Christian faith to care for people in need.
- Mercy Corps alleviates suffering, poverty and oppression by helping people build secure, productive and just communities. They provide emergency relief services, develop sustainable communities with strategies that include agriculture, health, economic development, education and infrastructure and they promote civil society initiatives in all programming encouraging non-violent conflict resolution and justice.
- National Democratic Institute (NDI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, nongovernmental organization that responds to the worldwide quest for popular civic participation, open and competitive political systems, and representative and accountable government. NDI works on five continents with political parties, governments, parliaments and civic groups to establish and strengthen democratic institutions and practices by building political and civic organizations, safeguarding elections, and promoting citizen participation, openness and accountability in government. With staff members and volunteer political practitioners from more than 100 nations, NDI brings together individuals and groups to share ideas, knowledge, experiences and expertise. Partners receive broad exposure to best practices in international democratic development that can be adapted to the needs of their own countries. NDI’s multinational approach reinforces the message that while there is no single democratic model, certain core principles are shared by all democracies. That philosophy has been applied in more than 110 countries since NDI’s founding in 1983.
- The Nature Conservancy is the leading conservation organization working to protect the most ecologically important lands and waters around the world for nature and people. - Opportunity International Opportunity International provides small business loans, savings, insurance and training to more than 2.5 million people working their way out of poverty in the developing world. Clients in over 20 countries use these financial services to start or expand a business, provide for their families, create jobs for their neighbors and build a safety net for the future. Motivated by Jesus Christ’s call to love and serve the poor, Opportunity serves all people regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or gender.
- Orbis is a nonprofit humanitarian organization that works in developing countries to save sight worldwide. ORBIS prevents and treats blindness through hands-on training, public health education, improved access to quality eye care, and partnerships with local health care organizations.
- Pact‘s mission is to help build strong communities globally that provide people with an opportunity to earn a dignified living, raise healthy families, and participate in democratic life. Pact achieves this by strengthening the capacity of grassroots organizations, coalitions and networks and by forging linkages among government, business and the citizen sectors to achieve social, economic and environmental justice.
- PATH is an international, nonprofit organization that creates sustainable, culturally relevant solutions, enabling communities worldwide to break longstanding cycles of poor health. By collaborating with diverse public- and private-sector partners, we help provide appropriate health technologies and vital strategies that change the way people think and act. PATH advances technologies for low-resource settings. Technologies must be effective, culturally acceptable, available, and affordable to the people who need them most. We strengthen health systems, because only stable systems can make use of technologies, and because all people – no matter where they live – need and deserve reliable health information and services. Additionally, we encourages healthy behaviors, working with communities to help people examine – and challenge – assumptions and traditions that may contribute to poor health.
- Pathfinder is a global organization that expands access to contraception, promote healthy pregnancies, save women’s lives, and stop the spread of new HIV infections, going wherever the need is most urgent. Since 1957, they have partnered with local governments, communities, and health systems to remove barriers to critical sexual and reproductive health services.
- PCI is committed to sustainable change in the health and self-sufficiency of people living in acute poverty. PCI’s mission is to prevent disease, improve community health and promote sustainable development worldwide.
- Plan International works to achieve lasting improvements for children living in poverty in developing countries, through a process that unites people across cultures and adds meaning and value to their lives.
- Population Services International (PSI) mission is to measurably improve the health of poor and vulnerable people in the developing world, principally through social marketing of family planning and health products and services, and health communications. Social marketing engages private sector resources and uses private sector techniques to encourage healthy behavior and make markets work for the poor.
- Practical Action uses technology to challenge poverty in developing countries. They find out what people are doing and help them to do it better. Through technology they enable poor communities to build on their skills and knowledge to produce sustainable and practical solutions- transforming their lives forever and protecting the world around them.

- RTI’s International Development Group With a mission to improve the human condition by turning knowledge into practice, RTI (an independent, nonprofit institute) provides research, development, and technical services worldwide. With more than 200 international development staff members based around the world, RTI’s International Development Group (IDG) delivers advisory and training services at the national, sub-national, and local government levels, providing institutional development through the transfer of analytical tools and methods. RTI’s IDG often work in multidisciplinary teams that cut across traditional sector boundaries.
- Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.
- Save the Children International fights for children’s rights and delivers immediate and lasting improvements to children’s lives worldwide. Save works with families to define and solve the problems their children and communities face using a broad array of strategies to ensure self-sufficiency which is the cornerstone of all Save the Children programs.
