What is the attire for the Global Learning Forum?

LINGOs Forum is fairly informal. You won’t go wrong with “business casual” and wearing layers to help you stay comfortable, whatever the weather or heating/cooling in the LEED Certified building.

As a meeting participant will I be able to make a one on one appointment with LINGOs staff?

LINGOs encourages participants to use the meeting time to network with one another. The LINGOs team is eager to engage with meeting participants in groups and one on one, as necessary. You can always connect with the LINGOs team, and you may find your time at the meeting best used by connecting with members, board members, partners, and other community members!

Can I submit specific questions or topics I would like to see discussed at the Forum?

YES! LINGOs meetings are very participatory.  We welcome your suggestions for session topics, and potential session leaders by 15th AugustPlease fill out our ‘Propose a session‘ form.

Registration

I’m with a LINGOs Member Organization. Is there a special Members’ rate for registration?

Each LINGOs Membership includes one prepaid registration to the Global Learning Forum (expires on August 15), and access to “Early Bird” discounts for additional participants (expire on July 15). We reserve Forum seats for members until July 15, after which time registration will open to the public.

Why is the meeting in Little Rock, Arkansas?

Heifer International, headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas, continues the tradition of a LINGOs member hosting the LINGOs Global Learning Forum 2015. Past meeting participants stated a preference for holding the meeting in different parts of the country, and expressed a desire for the 2015 meeting to take place in the south. A founding member of LINGOs, Heifer’s Global Village provides a spectacular meeting venue and an opportunity to learn with and from a member that actively engages with all LINGOs program areas.

What is the weather in Little Rock in mid-October?

October is one of the most popular months to visit due to the beautiful fall colors and favorable weather.  High temperatures are in the mid 70’s Fahrenheit (23.8 Celsius) while average low temperatures are 52 degrees Fahrenheit (11.1 Celsius).  We would recommend a light jacket for the mornings and evenings.

What is the best airport to fly into for the Global Learning Forum 2015?

The Bill & Hillary Clinton National Airport (Airport code LIT) is served by more than 50 flights each day, with non-stop jets to 13 cities.  The following airlines service the Little Rock National Airport; American Eagle, Continental Express, Delta, Northwest, Southwest, US Airways.

How can I make my hotel reservation?

The Global Learning Forum hotel is the Holiday Inn Presidential located at 600 I-30 Little Rock, AR 72202.   It is conveniently located approximately 10 minutes from the airport and roughly a 15 minute walk from the Global Village at Heifer International Headquarters.

I’m coming from outside the US, what do I need to know? (ESTA, Visa Letter, etc)

Determining your VISA needs

Do I need a visa to enter the United States for business?

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) may allow citizens from participating countries to travel to the United States for temporary business without a visa.   For a list of participating countries visit http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/business.html .

If you are traveling from a participating country you must have an approved Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) http://www.cbp.gov/travel/international-visitors/esta  before you can apply to the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english.html .

If I need to apply for a visa where should I start?

There are many steps which may differ by US Embassy or Consulate.  Please consult the instructions on the US Embassy website http://www.usembassy.gov/index.html .

Wait times could vary by location so it is best to begin this process as soon as possible.

Do I need proof of business purpose to apply for my visa?

If you need proof LINGOs will provide you the appropriate conference invitation letter as supporting documentation.  Please submit your letter request to Lourdes Isalgue (lourdes@lingos.org).

Free Time

Visit Heifer Ranch

Welcome-to-Heifer-Ranch-2Learning happens everywhere, and sometimes an interactive, hands-on field trip is the best way to connect with an idea – and with your co-learners! Heifer and LINGOs invite Global Learning Forum participants to join us on Friday, October 16 for a post-Forum guided tour of the Heifer Ranch, an educational farm about an hour from Little Rock. You’ll see first-hand the sustainable agriculture practices that Heifer supports, and learn how they can help transform the livelihoods of millions experiencing hunger and poverty.

Ranch Trip Schedule

Friday morning: Depart Hotel for Heifer Ranch at 8:30 AM. Tour the ranch, have lunch at the Heifer Café (ticket includes a meat or vegetarian option. full salad bar, dessert and beverage), and return to the hotel (Holiday Inn Presidential) at approximately 1:30 pm.

Cost: US$40 (includes transportation and lunch)

What type of cuisine is popular in Little Rock?

While Little Rock fare is culturally diverse it also provides traditional southern United States cuisine.
